Corrie Shares her Story
I love my new career in healthcare, and I am excited to be part of the massage therapy services here. However it took me awhile to make it to where I am now. Whatever the reason for the path that brought me here, it has been a life-changing experience.
Long story short, I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation in 2016 and ended up having two brain surgeries. I was originally working the career of my life as a deputy sheriff and had been for 13 years. But after lengthy hospital stays, expiring my disability benefits and being encouraged to ‘find a new career’, I was devastated. The lifelong career I had chosen was now gone and I struggled to keep going with some odd jobs as I started going back to school to become a teacher.
But I also knew I wanted to get healthier from the inside out! I wanted to stop taking all the medications I was on because I knew they were not making me "better" they were just covering up one thing to "fix" another. I was originally put on 12 different meds, but knowing there must be a better way, I decided to investigate. I looked into schools that teach real ways to make me a healthier me. And it kind of clicked, that I could help others as well with ways that don’t just cover up the problems. Then I came across The Institute of Therapeutic Massage and Wellness and here I am, newly graduated in 2024!
I am a better person in more ways than I can ever say. I feel better and I am only taking 4 medications now that I will probably stay on my entire life. I have a new career that I love and as a pastor once told me, “Corrie you need to be in a field of work that you are helping people because you have the healing and helping quality about you”. I love making people feel better and I love being able to touch a person and feel what needs to be worked on. I promise you I will do my best to make you feel better.
